How do I become a member of Beta Pi Omega?

Graduate membership is by invitation only and is not solicited. Beta Pi Omega hosts public events, such as forums, cultural presentations and social activities, so prospective candidates can become acquainted with chapter members and learn about our service activities. The Graduate Membership Intake Process (MIP) begins with a Letter of Invitation, signed by the graduate chapter president AND membership chairman on chapter stationery. There are no membership activities prior to receipt of an official invitation letter, and the Sorority prohibits partaking in MIP activities prior to receiving an official letter. For information: http://www.aka1908.com/membership/prospective-members.html

 

What are the requirements to become a graduate member?

• Completion of a baccalaureate degree, with at least a C+ cumulative average, or a graduate or professional degree (Ph.D., M.D., J.D., etc.) from an accredited college or university. C+ is equivalent to a 2.50 on a 4.0 scale if the school does not have a plus or minus on the grading scale;

• Motivation and talents to help promote, implement and extend policies and programs of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority;

• Attendance at Information Session with the required documents listed in the Letter of Invitation

 

What other steps are necessary if I have not received an invitation to membership although I attended all of Beta Pi Omega's public events?

Attendance at activities does not guarantee an invitation to membership. Members of the chapter will recommend women aligned with the Sorority’s mission, service to all mankind. Please continue to network and provide service to your local community and beyond. We appreciate your interest in our sorority.

I am a member of another AKA chapter.  How do I transfer membership to Beta Pi Omega?

Before transferring membership to Beta Pi Omega, you must first obtain clearance from your current chapter by completeing The Transfer Verification Form.  Please have the President and Treasurer of your current chapter to complete the form and return the original to you.   You then need to send the original to the Corporate office.  You will need to make a copy for your records and another copy to submit to us.  For more information and to download the form, go here: http://www.aka1908.com/membership/reactivation

I would like to visit your chapter - when and where are the meetings held?
Unless otherwise noted, chapter meetings are held every first Saturday of the month at 3:00 pm at Philander Smith College, Kendall Nugent Center, 900 W. Daisy Bates Dr. Little Rock, AR 72202.
